11th Annual International
Concrete Sustainability Conference

The 11th annual International Concrete Sustainability Conference (2016 ICSC) provides learning opportunities on the latest advances, knowledge, research, tools and solutions for sustainable concrete manufacturing, design and construction. Engineers, architects, government officials, researchers, academics, students, contractors, and industry professionals are invited to share their knowledge.

Principal Sponsors

The principal sponsor and organizer of 2016 ICSC is the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. Additional support is provided by the RMC Research & Education Foundation and the Portland Cement Association. Click here for more information about conference sponsors.

2016 ICSC Topics

Experts will present on the latest developments related to design, specifying, manufacturing, testing, construction, maintenance, and research of concrete as it relates to sustainable development.

  • RESILIENCE Planning and design that strengthens and renews the social and economic fabric of a community. Designing and specifying high performance applications in buildings and infrastructure, fortified building codes and community initiatives focusing on disaster resistance and adaptive reuse.

  • LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT Assessing carbon footprint, embodied energy and other environmental impacts for buildings, infrastructure, and cement and concrete manufacturing.

  • LOW IMPACT DEVELOPMENT Practices including pervious pavements and erosion control structures. Urban heat island reduction, light colored pavements, green roofs and cool communities.

  • MATERIAL SCIENCE Innovations in durability, extended service life models and validation. Performance-based specifications to foster sustainability. Innovative concrete production methods. Alternative materials, including aggregates, water, cementitious materials and fuels. Beneficial use of byproducts for cement and concrete production.

  • SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Community action and engagement. Sustainability initiatives adopted by businesses, building owners, designers and manufacturers, including health and well being incentives and legislation.

8th International
RILEM Symposium on Self-Compacting Concrete

6th North American Conference on Design and Use of Self-Consolidating Concrete

This conference combines the RILEM Symposium on Self-Compacting Concrete and the North American Conference on Design and Use of Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC 2016). The conference is designed to bring researchers and practitioners together to exchange the latest ideas, knowledge, and tools to build the future of concrete construction as it relates to design, construction and manufacturing of SCC.

Principal Sponsors

The primary sponsor and organizer of SCC 2016 is the Missouri University of Science and Technology's Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies (CIES) and RE-CAST (Research on Concrete Applications for Sustainable Transportation) University Transportation Center. Additional support is provided by RILEM, American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the Center for Advanced Cement-Based Materials (ACBM). Click here for more information on conference sponsors.

SCC 2016 Topics

The topics listed below are intended to spark thinking about issues that might be addressed. Other topics that address the conference theme and SCC components will also be considered.

  • Materials (powders, nano-particles, aggregates, admixtures, fibers and microstructure).

  • Design methodology (mix and structural design).

  • Rheology.

  • Production and placement (workability, pumping and formwork pressure).

  • Quality control (methods, procedures and specifications).

  • Property and performance evaluation (experimentation, monitoring and modeling).

  • Durability.

  • Structural performance.

  • Aesthetics, safety and economic benefits of SCC.

  • Sustainability.

  • Case studies to discuss the successes and lessons learned from SCC applications.

This conference will honor over 50 years of outstanding contributions of Professor Surendra Shah to the field of concrete science, including SCC research and education.
